The Rebel View of the James

Seven or eight miles southeast of Richmond, VA lies Drewry`s Bluff on the James River. An elevated, well protected and well armed fort and ordinance testing battery was established here very early in the war. It was also frequently called Fort Darling. As the gunners looked over their Columbiad guns or Brooke Naval Rifles, they could sometimes see Federal ironclads organizing for an attack. More than one Federal attack was repulsed from this position.
