    Flags Flying at Fort Fisher

There are colorful flags and cannon in the parking lot. There are cannon to the north and cannon to the south of the Visitor Center with its extremely interesting museum. They also have the best selection of Civil War books that we have found anywhere. But, lets face it, the main draw here is the land front wall of the original fort which looks like a huge, beached, `Nessie`, with her regularly spaced humps in a line stretched across the penninsula. The long seafront was washed away by the sea long ago, but the landfront and Battery Buchanan to the South gives the visitor a really good idea how this fort was constructed, so long ago.
