    Central Chassis Eccentric

This chassis eccentric was thrown to lift the tremendous weight off each stout cast-iron load-bearing support, which was located adjacent to each eccentric axle wheel, when the artillerymen wanted to traverse the gun. Once again, the key clue as to whether an eccentric axle is present, are the double dimples or `centers` in the end of the axle which you can see in the photo. Also, see the `15 IN` stamped into the upper web surface of the wheel which is a reference to 15 Inch Rodman Gun, no doubt.
