Full Scale Gun Drill at Fort Monroe, Virginia

Inside Fort Monroe`s excellent Casemate Museum there are many interesting historical exhibits including the casemate quarters of captured Confederate States of America President, Jefferson Davis. The large 32 Pdr. Seacoast Gun, Model 1845, on the wooden casemate carriage being served by the artillery crew, gives the visitor a unique view into the duties of an seacoast gun crew. The `pass-box` is opened near the muzzle to pass the charge to the cannoneer who places it into the muzzle in position to be rammed to the bottom of the tube`s bore.
