Seacoast Artillery Photo Gallery Top View of the `Bathtub Plate` We call this large chassis bottom plate the `bathtub plate` because it, the I-beam rails, and the transoms form a water-tight bathtub of sorts when you paint them with a lot of heavy black epoxy paint as part of your artifact preservation program. We saw this condition after a rain at one fort and thought it looked like a large bathtub. Actually it was more of a mosquito breeding pond. All the rivets have truncated cone heads which are typical of all interior rivet heads, except those which are flush.
